Dorathea Barth was born in Osnabruck, Stadt Hannover, Germany in 1822. She married John Charles Rohkar September 18, 1847 and they arrived in New York on July 13, 1851. They had two children born in Saugerties, Ulster County, New York, Henry born in 1852 and Georgeana born in 1854. 

They moved to Freeport, Illinois late in 1855 and founded the Rohkar’s Hanover Bakery in 1856 at the corner of Mechanic (now State Avenue) and Stephenson Streets and then moved two doors east on Stephenson. The bakery was in the family until 1930.

They had three more children that were born in Freeport, Illinois: Charles Jr, 1860, Caroline, 1861, and Margaretha born in 1863.

In 1876 the Rohkar family moved to Ridott, Illinois and opened a restaurant and saloon. They remained in Ridott the remainder of their lives with Dorathea dying in 1900 and Charles dying in 1912.

Mrs. Charles Rohkar, Sr., died at her home in Ridott Saturday afternoon at 4 o’clock. She had not been well for some years, but was up and seeing to her housework duties the day before. Mrs. Rohkar nee Dorathea Barth was born in Belm Amp Osnabruck, Hanover, Germany, Jan. 11, 1822. She was married at the old home Sept. 18, 1847, to Charles F Rohkar, and came to America July 13, 1851. After remaining in New York a while they came west to Freeport in 1854. They removed to Ridott in 1872, where they have since lived. Besides her husband she leaves tow sons and two daughters, Henry, of Rockford; Charles, of Ridott; Mrs. Joseph Murray, of Ridott, and Mrs. Chas. Knodle, of Freeport. They remains will be brought to Freeport and funeral services held at 2 o’clock Tuesday afternoon from the residence of Henry Rohkar, a brother-in-law of the deceased."
