Great Great Grandmother Drucilla Vilott Ellis

My 2nd great grandmother Drucilla Vilott was born on Christmas Day, December 25, 1823 in Ohio. Her name was spelled Drusilla on her marriage certificate and spelled Druzilla on the 1850 and 1860 census. From 1870 to her death she was Drucilla.

Drucilla was the first of ten children of James Vilott, born in 1801 in Ohio and Mary Ann Noble Vilott, born in Ohio in 1805.  When Drucilla was born her father, James was 22, and her mother, Mary was 18.

The Vilott family moved to Laurel, Franklin County, Indiana when Drucilla was about 3 years old and her brother Sneathen was 1 year old. The remained of Drucilla’s siblings were born in Indiana and most likely in Laurel, Indiana.

Drucilla met Richard B Ellis and they were married on Sep 20, 1848 in Franklin County Indiana.

Richard Ellis was a stonemason and according to his obituary he was instrumental as the contractor of building two large stone churches in Davenport, Iowa in 1851, which were still standing when he died in 1892.

The Ellis family moved to Rock Island County, Illinois in the year 1852, but did not remain long as they moved to Richland Grove Township in Mercer County Illinois in 1853 and bought a quarter section of land, one half of it from the government at $1.25 per acre. A part of this property now forms the village of Cable, Illinois.

In 1854 theys began a fruit raising business with some 3000 fruit trees including apples, pears, peaches and plums.

Richard and Drucilla had a total of nine children.
